Kosciuszko National Park: Women's Mount Kosciuszko Winter Ascent - 3 to 5 August 2019
Standing at 2,228 metres, Mount Kosciuszko is the highest mountain on the Australian mainland. While it requires no technical climbing skills, an ascent of Kosciuszko is an incredible adventure…and reaching the summit in winter is a solid challenge! Join a group of likeminded She Went Wild women and be led by the guides from the Australian School of Mountaineering for an all-female Kosi Winter Ascent.
For this all-female Mount Kosciuszko Winter Ascent, you will travel with highly experienced guides from the Australian School of Mountaineering to their alpine basecamp where you will make ready for your ascent. You will be learning winter survival, snow camping and safety skills training as part of your preparation. The summit climb will be made on snowshoes and your guides will teach you how to use these safely and efficiently with some short acclimatisation walks.
An early alpine start will be required to optimise our chances of success; the round trip to the summit and back will require approximately 16 kilometres of alpine trekking through a winter wonderland!
HOW THE ADVENTURE WILL GO:
At 8am on Saturday, we meet at ASM Jindabyne Base Camp at the entry to Jindabyne Holiday Park directly opposite Nuggets Crossing in Jindabyne (look for ASM banner and expedition tents).
After preparing all food and technical equipment on Thursday morning, the group will then be transported by minibus, oversnow vehicle and then finally by snowshoes to our basecamp.
Group gear will be transported in participants’ packs as well as on snow sleds. It is beneficial for you to have some excess bag space for group equipment.
Should accommodation be required prior to or after the course, tent sites at the Jindabyne Holiday Park (Phone 02 6456 2249) are available. This is a much favoured option as the Holiday Park is a one minute walk from the course starting point and a night "under canvas" will help acclimatise!
Some pre-course training such as jogging, cycling, bushwalking or skiing will go a long way in ensuring that your course will be an enjoyable and rewarding one. You don't need to be superman but a good level of fitness is recommended.
To ensure safety and enjoyment, the group size is capped strictly at 10 women.
