Blue Mountains: 1-Day Wilderness Navigation Course

1-Day Wilderness Navigation Course // 6th Oct - $250

The ability to navigate using a map + compass opens up your world to off-track adventures as well as keeps you safe.

Join us and the qualified guides from the Australian School of Mountaineering for a special* 1-day Wilderness Navigation Course in the Blue Mountains!

*This course is normally 2 days but we have partnered with ASM to bring to you this more accessible 1-day version

How The Day Goes:

8.45am - meet at the Australian School of Mountaineering Office inside The Paddy Pallin Adventure Centre, 166 Katoomba Street, Katoomba (2-minute walk from Katoomba train station).

The course will cover:

  • Introduction into compass and map and how they work

  • Magnetic declination

  • UTM grid references

  • Resections

  • Bearings

  • Dead reckoning

  • Terrain association

  • Walking an off-track route from a route card

We'll be back at the ASM Office no later than 4.45pm.

Getting There:

If you are travelling from Sydney to Katoomba, allow 2 hours by train or 1.5 hours by car. 

The Australian School of Mountaineering Office is inside The Paddy Pallin Adventure Centre:
166 Katoomba Street
Katoomba.

It is a 2-minute walk from the train station.

Adventure Prerequisites:

  • We'll be learning our navigation skills in the beautiful Blue Mountains so be aware that there will be some bushwalking involved!
  • Time: 8.45am - 4.45pm

Included

  • Instruction from nationally qualified & highly experienced guides

  • All technical equipment

  • Lunch - when you book, we will ask for your dietary requirements

Excluded

  • Transport to + from meeting point

  • Personal clothing + insurance

  • GPS use

Cancellation Policy

If you have any concerns about the day, feel free to ring the ASM office on 4782 2014. 

In the event of bad weather, we will aim to re-organise the event.

If you're unable to make the new date it we will offer you a full refund. 

No refund on tickets on cancellations 7 days out from the event.
