1-Day Wilderness Navigation Course // 19th May - $180
By the end of this day, you will be able to:
read and understand a topographic map (and other types of maps)
utilise a compass independently with either a route card or a map and apply to real life application – including generating their own route card to use when navigating off-track
troubleshoot any errors in judgement/location to extricate themselves to a known location (to a practical extent)

How The Day Goes:
8.30am - meet at Mt Tinbeerwah carpark (click for map)
The course will cover:
Map types and key points
Compass intro: basic use and interference sources
Compass intro applied to maps: declinations, resections, manual pacing method, mark setting
Practical trials: compass use, route cards, off-track navigation using route cards
There will be some bushwalking involved with the practicals!
The day will officially conclude at 4pm.
If you are driving from Brisbane City, allow at least 30 minutes.
Follow the Bruce Highway north and take the Cooroy turnoff 120km from Brisbane. Drive through Cooroy, following signs to Noosa Heads to end up on the Cooroy-Noosa Rd. Follow this for about 8km before turning left into Tinbeerwah Rd, well marked with signs for the scenic lookout. Follow this road, which is dirt at times, for about 3km to the carpark at the top of 'Mt Tinbeerwah.

All technical equipment
Food & water - please ensure you bring at least 2 litres of water, snacks and lunch. There will be morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea breaks.
If possible, please also bring a camp chair for the theory sessions! There is some park bench space but to be sure, camp chairs are advisable.
