Wales : Women's Beginner's Navigation Course

Women's Beginner's Navigation Course // 22 June - $82 + fees

Learn the skills to be self-sufficient in the mountains with JT Expeditions!

Meeting point:

Dan yr Ogof National Showcaves Centre for Wales, Abercrave, Swansea, SA9 1GJ (click for map)

How the day goes:

Please be at the meeting point below for a 9am start!

After a safety brief, introduction and kit check, we will head into the hills where we will cover all forms of navigation progressively. We will start with more basic features like orientating the map and using general map features to navigate. We will then move onto the finer techniques such as taking bearings and using micro-contour features to read the relief of the land and compare it to the map.

Along the way, we will cover additional aspects of mountain walking such as equipment, nutrition, how to keep yourself fuelled and how to look after and manage yourself in the mountains. This will mesh well with your newfound navigation skills to ensure you are self-sufficient in the mountains!

We will aim to be off the hills by around 3pm where we can then head to the local pub or cafe for some hot drinks and some of South Wales finest cakes! Here we can have a half-hour debrief, reflect on the day and discuss all things adventure…

Here’s more detail on what we’ll be covering:
