Lauren Jones: Mama to Morgan and wife to Justin. Lauren is a keen and brave adventuress with a sustainable mindset and love for the outdoors.

Lauren is one to embrace a good challenge and in her own words believes that “self-discovery begins where your comfort zone ends.” Lauren is putting this into action on July 15 as she and her family undertakes a 1,800km trek, unaccompanied through the Australian outback.

Lauren is joined by her husband Justin “Jonesy” Jones who is a seasoned professional adventurer, known widely for skiing to the South Pole and back, after traversing the waters between Australia and New Zealand by Kayak (Top tip: check out his kayak in Sydney’s Maritime Museum!)

Last but not least, unless measuring height, mum and dad are joined by Morgan, the teeniest addition to the party. Morgan is a one year old explorer and is joining her parents for her first big adventure... of which we’re sure many more are to follow. Watch this space!

The Jonesys are not living the typical family life and are on a mission: on July 15 they will set off on a journey to walk from the center of Australia to Port Augusta on the South Australian coast, a 1,800km unaccompanied journey over the course of just 90 days.

As a family, the Jonesys will navigate some of the continent’s most rugged terrain, facing the elements in their attempt to settle down different and live a conscious, sustainable and more examined life; to connect to the Australian land, cultures, and people; and have amazing family experiences along the way.

Their journey goes beyond merely the physical and is fueled by their strong family values (read more on them here) and their mission to challenge the family status quo. As young adventurers, should we have to choose between having a family and our adventurous life outdoors? The Jonesys challenge traditional expectations placed upon ‘family life’ and question society’s ‘requirement’ to ‘settle’ once little ones enter the mix.

Believing that mother nature is our greatest teacher and the world our oyster, Lauren and Jonesy are excited to live their values and share their love for the trails with Morgan, letting her experience life through exploration and discovery in the great outdoors.

Packing lightly and thoughtfully at their base camp in Sydney, the Jonesys’ are on a journey toward zero waste expeditioning (more on their blog here!).  They recognize this isn’t a small task and won’t happen overnight but they are committed to asking more questions, choosing products responsibly, thinking about supply chains and taking only the essentials: bamboo toothbrushes, DIY toothpaste (#saynotoplastic!), making bulk, healthy and unprocessed bush meals, and have even built their own travel cart. The Jonesys are embarking upon their journey unassisted and they fully intend to finish it that way!

She Went Wild has been catching up with Lauren as she and her family prepare for the trails ahead and will continue to share their story as the journey unfolds. Keep an eye out on our instagram page for updates. You can find out  more about the Jonesys on their Website.
