Gear For The Mini-Adventurer

Finding outdoor gear for your little one involves jumping headfirst down as deep a rabbit hole as selecting gear for yourself.

Even though they are, like, a fifth of your size.

We’re here to make it easier with a list of our favourite layers, outerwear and backpack for babies and infants.

We’ve focussed partly on gear that has special features designed especially for them and partly on gear that is just too cute!

Winter outerwear

Patagonia Baby Nano Puff® Jacket is possibly the cutest puffy jacket we’ve ever seen, ever. You’ve likely seen it in the most adorable of adorable baby spam on Instagram as well. This jacket is wind and water-resistant and made of PrimaLoft which is a military-grade insulation that will your baby warm even if it happens to get wet (unlike down!). But what we love most is the the “hand-me-down ID label”!

ergoPouch Sleeping Bag is a baby and toddler sleeping bag designed for temps between 14º and 21º. Coupled with a merino wool base layer and fleece suit and your mini-adventurer will be snug all night long. And don’t forget a sleeping mat/pad!

CamelBak Kids’ Mini M.U.L.E. Hydration Pack will keep your child hydrated AND it has room for the day’s essentials such as a rain shell. We especially love the safety features; reflective strips and a whistle.

Fjållråven Kånken Mini is a no-brainer with almost a cult following. Some things you may not know: the logo is reflective, the material is durable, lightweight and water-resistant and there is an address label inside the main compartment. There’s also the Re-Kånken Mini, a special edition version made entirely from recycled polyester from plastic bottles.

Baby Carriers

Osprey POCO® AG is the marriage of Osprey’s award-winning Anti-Gravity backpacking suspension system and their baby carrier. Their backpacking suspension system will keep your back, shoulders and hips from aching. The shoulder harness is made of mesh for breathability. The baby carrier features a fully-framed cockpit and a fleece-covered butterfly harness. For longer hikes, this is our go-to.

BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One Air will keep your little one comfortable from newborn to 3 years old, either facing out or on your back. This baby carrier features airy and cool mesh to wick away sweat and keep you dry as well as padded shoulder straps and a waist belt. This is our pick for shorter adventures as well as everyday use.
